Austrian Pop Artist to Lohme

For decades, Austrian artist Martin Sonnleitner has produced current and relevant art of high quality and now he will make his first exhibition in Sweden.

The staff at Lohme Art Gallery express what they particularly look forward to at the exhibition with Martin Sonnleitner.

Mikael Eskilsson, Gallery manager I have had contact with Martin Sonnleitner and his agent for over a year to get to this exhibition. That's because I'm driven by showing up world art for the Malmo public. Martin Sonnleitner is very appreciated in his home country Austria and all the way to the U.S where he is adopted in the Soho community of fine artists in New York. He’s paintings are stylistically American but with a European flair.

Jonathan Lind, Operations manager I have had many occasions to show pictures of what to be displayed to people I meet in and outside the gallery. Almost everyone says "wow - I want to see that live!" I notice what impressions Martin Sonnleitner's art makes on people and everyone finds something they love when they look through his pictures.

"Stars and Stripes can be a reference to the American national anthem and flag, or to my style and subjects, or just to the whiskey brand."

Malin Hellborg, Art for businesses I’m impressed by the versatility of the artist's creation. For example, take a painting like "20 years art Mona L vs. Romy", where the artist uses several different styles that all take many years to master to the level that Martin Sonnleitner does. He has a fantastic color vision and ability to use it to bring out personalities, which is one of the reasons he can make paintings of Marilyn Monroe, David Bowie and Audrey Hepburn and make them feel current.

What does the artist say about his own artistry, and about the title of the exhibition?

“I do not think of art while I work. I try to think about life. I try to recreate artificial influences as a mixture of different styles and techniques, and then I end up in the present of my own contemporary art. It's the only way to reinvent my view of art and myself as an artist. The scenes are my social comments of modern art.”
